2024 NY Architects Regatta: Results, Reflections, and Looking Ahead

Our regular readers know that most of our posts focus on the organizations the regatta supports and their impact on the community. However, in this, I’m pleased to report on the exciting results of the regatta itself.

The NY Architects Regatta has three core facets:

  • It’s a professional networking event
  • It’s a fundraiser for important waterfront-related causes
  • And, of course, it’s a day of casual yacht racing

For me, the networking aspect is always a highlight. Perhaps it’s because I race sailboats regularly, but this event is the best opportunity to catch up with colleagues from across the city, making it truly special. This year stood out even more thanks to Lerch Bates, who generously sponsored the after-party. We can’t thank them enough for making it a memorable year!

On the fundraising front, we may not have reached our ambitious $200,000 goal, but we knew from the start that it was a lofty target during a tough year. Thanks to the efforts of many—including more than a few of you reading this newsletter—we came closer to that goal than we expected. A big thank you to everyone who contributed; your support means the world to us.

Now, for the regatta itself. First and foremost, I want to acknowledge our incredible friends at Hudson River Community Sailing. Running a regatta in the challenging waters of the Hudson, with its tides and the lee of the Palisades, is no small feat. Yet, year after year, they continue to impress, adapting to the conditions and making the event truly special.

Planning for the 2025 NY Architects Regatta is already underway. But the 2024 Regatta doesn’t truly conclude until next year. In the coming weeks, as final donations come in, we’ll be disbursing the funds we’ve raised. Over the next several months, we’ll bring you stories about the organizations we support and the meaningful impact they’re making in the community.

It is your donations that make these stories possible. I hope you’ll read them and take pride in the accomplishments of these amazing organizations—accomplishments that you helped make possible through your generous support.

Best regards,
